Teach Your Kids To Be Healthier And Happier
Obesity is a growing problem. Our evermore inactive lives, combined with greater calorific intake, have one inevitable consequence – rising obesity.
In “Childhood Obesity: The Health Issue” by Deckelbaum and Williams, they document the frightful revelation of 22 million obese children worldwide who are younger than 5 years of age. Amongst the many recommendations they particularly nominate attention to the health and activities of young children – for them to eat less, more wisely and to engage in more physical activity.
As a society we should be embarrassed by this , as it has been demonstrated to compromise our health in later years. They consider the prevention of obesity a primary goal from as young as possible.
The teaching profession can make a contribution in educating for better nutritional education – less energy intense food intakes, and to promote physical activity.
Giant games and play mats equal an active life
For early childhood, amongst other things, this means simple things like taking part in the diverse range of activities that can be facilitated by play mats. It doesn’t really concern what it is, but make it physical , make it active and get them moving.
Educational play mats are now available in a wide variety of themes that promote learning of curricula relevant to these young children. Themes cover literacy, numeracy, gross-motor skills, cultural awareness and social interaction.
The desirable aspect of learning with play mats is that often you can work on learning, gross motor skills, social skills and physical exercise simultaneously. It’s like grabbing a quadruple whammy with more benefit for your bucks!
Along the same lines, giant educational games are usually large, metre by metre versions of similar table top versions, but instead of playing seated, you have to move the body, to walk, to bend, to twist, interact and all the time learn new ideas and concepts.
