Subsidies for bio-diesel B3&B5; in Thailand
Subsidies for bio-diesel B3&B5 in Thailand
This article is my opinion about the subsidies price of bio-diesel in Thailand. News from Energy Policy and Planning Office, Thailand.(คณะกรรมการนโยบายพลังงาน (กนง.)) agreed to subsidize the price of bio-diesel B5 and B3 by 0.50 Baht/Liter effective from today (6 January 2554) and news from Shell said government policy are not conducive to use bio-diesel B5. In my opinion, I agree with the Shell opinion because the subsidies reduce the relative price then it is increase budget constraint. When budget constraint has increase, consumers will increase their consumption expenditures. If governments want to promote the use of B5 bio-diesel, government should provide subsidies to an amount of bio-diesel B5 greater than bio-diesel B3. From news, the government subsidizes 0.50 Baht/Liter equally. The price difference between bio-diesel B3 and B5 only differ 0.60 Baht/Liter. The ratio are just this, it cannot encourage people turning to use more bio-diesel B5 because ฿1 for diesel B5 has marginal utility same as ฿1 for bio-diesel B3. Because of they do not like bio-diesel, it is increase the price of bio-diesel when relate with diesel fuel so the price of bio-diesel more expensive than diesel fuel because Some people think bio-diesel will decrease their car performance so they do not want to use bio-diesel.
